False. Red is a mute who conquered the gym leader challenge with ease and put Team Rocket out of business in Kanto, then fucked off to live in the mountains because he realized everyone sucks but him. He also humiliated his rival on his path to becoming champion, then ditched the Elite 4 because, in his own words, "... ... ..."
That is the canon story of the character, whether you like it or not. Red is not Ash. Ash is not Red. They are two different characters.
