The anime is that kind of media that would have Zen Headbutt Gardevoir and Shadow Punch Gengar as strong as theirbspecial counterparts. In fact I don't think pokemon have a gap between physical and special stats in the anime despite there is a physical and special attacks split and it is aknowldged there.

Never said that I need top-tier visuals to enjoy a battle, just passible ones to make the battle WRITING coherent, as that is what draws me to pokemon battles in the anime, and sure neither the visuals nor the writing has been consistent in Journeys but I'll much rather have that than the XY approach of, seemingly deliberately, substituting good writing for flashy visuals. I just prefer when the writing fails to satisfy it's a genuine failing, not a feature of the anime.
