Your dislike of fangames is noted but irrelevant because my point is just that people will make games they care about either way. People make fangames NOW and it's illegal to do so. Imagine being able to hire professionals and set up crowdfunding projects explicitly for the purpose of making a Pokemon game that's every bit as "official" as Red and Blue Version.

Okay but this would instantly break compatibility between games because there would be no central authority deciding what is official or not, so different games would use different data structures for Pokemon.
