The aesthetic. Despite their shortcomings, the games have the most charm in the franchise along with Legends.

I wholeheartedly agree. Legends was the most fun pokemon game I've played apart from gen 2. It really recaptured the magic imo

I was thinking of doing a monotype run. Probably not hardcore because I'm rolling a (virtual) dice for the typing and I like my sanity.
HGSS are an objective improvement and were made by a director that actually understood what the games were about, so if I want to play GS I just default to those.
But I still like the Gen 2 aesthetic more, which means the definitive version of the games takes the cake for me.

Walking Ho-oh in Go, also recently found a really cheap Totodile Plush at all Walgreens

GSC but that's because I haven't played HGSS (but I've heard alot about them and the Pokethalon looks fun)

Typhosion, but Tyranitar and Scizor are tied for a close second. Also honorable mention to Smeargle.

I like how GSC give players so much freedom to do what they want and the weekly events. Also, I like that patch of grass outside of the Ruins of Alph.

depends on if i want the physical/special split or not. usually, i end up playing the vc releases of crystal and silver, but recently HG with the pokewalker has been a blast.

johto has so many of my favorites it's not even funny. xatu, misdreavus, piloswine, porygon2, sunflora, sudowoodo, miltank, ampharos, crobat, the starters. quagsire will forever be my favorite tho.

mon designs and soundtrack. while gen 1 feels very kaiju-y, gen 2 is cute and weird in a way that the rest of the series never comes close to. the music really meshes with the art making this comfy, bizarre game that feels very "lived-in". i love it.
