I've watched the first few episodes of the B&W series and it's not even as bad as people have said it is. Cilan in pretty based, Iris is an improvement from Misty, Team Rocket are badass and Giovanni finally looks like the yakuza boss he is.

Ash doesn't NEED to defend Goh when Kiawe and Gary are bullying him. Goh doesn't NEED to play a role in motivating Ash like Serena did. Ash doesn't NEED to be present during Goh's final missions. Goh doesn't NEED to be part of the movies with Ash. Ash doesn't NEED to ever have a double battle with Goh. Ash and Goh don't NEED to have a friendly sparring match like almost every other companions have had.
It doesn't matter that the animators hate Goh and only save the sakuga for Ash episodes.
I’m rewatching all of Ash’s PWC battle and man I don’t remember them being as good as they are. I forgot Ash battled the Lt. Surge gender swap who actually gave Ash a good fight. Even the filler battles were pretty good. My only grid is the off screened battles which I’m assuming was because of the four month COVId break.
