As for silver, terrible idea, it's an industrial metal now and doesn't solve any monetary problem the way gold does (divisibility isn't an issue with modern tech, banks, digital money).
The yearly inflation supply is high, even if the price goes way up, that just allows producers to crank up production. Price spikes, goes all the way back down, and miners make a killing. Look up silver Thursday & the Hunt brothers.
Only way silver is becoming money again is if we go full minecraft. And in that case, you'd do better to have spent your money on bullets, seeds, land, low power microcontrollers, power generation, etc.

Given how inflation is going... an ounce of silver might hit $600 in a decade. Of course then $600 will have equivalent purchasing power to today's $30, so I'm not sure how sound of an investment that would be. If you want to be irrationally shilled silver just ask /pmg/.
