Since 2007~2008. I used to read a weekly magazine back then, and they had several special reports about China prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. If I'm not mistaken, they used to say that China would lead the world by 2050, but the way things are moving lately, I'd say that it will happen by 2035~2040.

It was during the Obama presidency and "wir schaffen das" in Europe, the culture in the west seem to degenerate rapidly. Most mainstream media became political activistic and shedded all pretense of neutrality. A lot of companies followed in the wake and are now borderline political entities - won't be long before we start seeing companies endorsing various politicians.
Most western economies seems crooked, too much finance, too little manufacturing and the digital revolution is vastly overblown.

As the years gone by i was increasingly affirmed in my pessimism, the political polarization, the stagnating living standard (meanwhile the stock market triple), and increasingly inept politicians.

China is shit, it is only "the future" because the future of the west looks so grim. Truly a hopeless situation.
