Consider this a bit of a survey thread. Post which gen you started playing Pokémon. From there, which versions of each generation did you play?
I started with Gen 2.
>Silver and later Crystal
>Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Green
>Diamond, Platinum, Soul Silver
>Black, Black 2
>X, Alpha Sapphire
Haven't played any of the more recent games.
Started with gen 3, haven't played:
>Blue
>Gold, Silver
>Ruby, Sapphire
>Pearl
>Let's Go, Pikachu!
>Shining Pearl
Played all other versions.
Started with Gen 4, have played:
>Diamond/Pearl and Platinum
>HG/SS
>Black/White
>X/Y
>Sword/Shield
Skipped Gen 7 and remakes Gen 6 onwards, and obviously old games.
I started with Gen 1
>Red
> Gold and then Crystal
Don’t skip the old games
Started with Gen 3
>Sapphire
>Gold
>I emulated the rest of the first two gen games plus Leaf Green
>Pearl
>Platinum
>Soul Silver
>White
>Sun
One day I'll emulate Black 2, other than that I'm not interested in main line Pokémon gmaes anymore

Oh yeah, I play Emerald too before starting to emulate. How could I forgot my favourite Pokémon game?
But the collector inside me doesn't like to know that many of the Pokemons I like from future gens are not in past games... that's why Dexcut hurt so much. Not that I even attempt to complete the pokedex but its not a fun party if not everyone makes it in.

I watch the anime in 98 and played Stadium at the time, but I didn't play the main series until Silver. Should I consider myself gen 1 or gen 2?
