xy is shit and it always has been. coming from the disaster of BW people wanted something different from pokemon, anything as long as it was not another BW, and when people saw how different xy looked(literally the animation style) people thought that it was different but in reality, it was not it was just as bad just in different ways. I will not lie it looks fine, good even(animation) but the story and characters are horrendous its story and plot are all over the place. from its start, it was already changing the past with the camp flash back forcefully injecting a new plot from a new character into that of already established old characters. serenas crush was doomed from its start if she had developed it throughout the series it would have felt natural but instead, it's her apparent only reason for doing anything for the first 25% of the series. because of this, her character suffers greatly due to the lack of personal growth and goal/focus although not always, when her and ash are on the screen together the viewers first thought is not of what she has done but is that of what she will do next because of ash, this takes focus away from that of her and redirects it to the of ash(this is still something that we can see happing recently). her non-existent personality does not help her case she has been shown to have many skills but was never shown to have developed said skills everything outside her main goal(the showcases) she was already perfect at the definition of a mary sue. many of her interactions felt unnatural. The groups dynamic was also poor while there was interaction between ash to celemont, and to serena, and serena to bonnie there was little interaction between that of serena and clemont and ash and bonnie. with out ash there the group would have most likely not been friends and don't feel like it even with him there.
