I have a theory that some of the executives at Game Freak are quietly, but intentionally, trying to destroy the franchise without pissing off their investors.

Think about it. It is no secret that each new entry in the series since XY has taken a drastic nosedive in quality. People here can genwar all they want, but the general agreement amongst most people is that Gens 1-5 were the great, and since then things have gone way downhill.

The transition to 3D was notoriously bad and mocked even by gamers outside of the Pokemon community. And 10 years on, the mocking continues.

Even with each new game, the ‘improvements’ are bare minimum, overshadowed by the general consensus that Pokemon is not ‘up to par’ compared to its contemporaries in terms of graphics, gameplay, additional features etc.

This leads us to the current day where the games are still made fun of for having N64 trees, shitty backdrops with visual noise etc.

Now most people write this off as GF just being ‘lazy’, right? This is exactly what they want you to think, because now they can get away with the unpardonable sins:

1. Dexcutting
2. Purposefully creating dogshit designs

I’m fairly certain that if you’d have designed Enamorus in 1996 for Gen I, Tajiri, Masada, Sugimori etc. would have fired you on the spot and laughed you all the way out of the building.

And regarding dexcutting, Game Freak have the money and resources to hire the manpower needed for 905+ models and animations, and anyone who denies this is nothing more than a useful corporate stooge.

Yet despite the constant criticisms of dexcutting, poor graphics, poor animations, barren regions and content, shit Pokemon designs that are likened to Digimon etc. etc. they just press on with the yearly releases like no criticisms were made, and it gets worse each time. This is likely because Game Freak have convinced their investors that Pokemon games are guaranteed moneymakers and that the controversies will blow over.

And in a way they’re right. People on this board right now will defend the dexcuts, the objectively dreadful designs, the objectively threadbare games, the fucked new battling system.

But what Game Freak knows is that one day, there will be a straw that breaks the camel’s back - a jump of the shark so enormous, so Earth shatteringly bad, that even the hardcore fans will finally abandon the series for good. And those of you that are now thinking “That will never happen, there will always be drones that buy any new game in droves” - this again is exactly what Game Freak wants you to believe.

Remember that episode of South Park when Cartman finally does something so bad, the other kids stop acknowledging his existence? Game Freak are slowly trying to work out what will snap the banjo string for good. (2/3)

Get a life outside Pokéman

Now you’re probably thinking “Why would they try to destroy something that prints money?”

The executive class at Game Freak are already multi-millionaires, and once they work out the ultimate franchise destroyer, they will likely all slowly dip from the company and sell up their shares.

Now, what would be their motive for this? Masuda went on record saying that Black and White were his Magnum Opus, yet the Gen 5 games sold worse than any Generation to date. You could hear how passionate Masuda was about Gen 5 and it did not succeed. Knowing this, it is very easy to understand why so much included in Gen 6 seemed to be done out of spite - Gen 1 starters, Pidgey as the first encounter, Snorlax roadblock, Exp Share etc. etc.

Fast forward to Gen 8 - constant Charizard and Gen 1 shilling, which they would know alienates and upsets the hardcore fans. Starting to see a pattern? They’re trying to alienate both sides:

1. Alienate hardcore fans with Gen 1 shilling and shitty mechanics and features that no-one wants
2. Alienate casuals by ensuring that the graphics/optics are poor compared to more contemporary games

TL;DR - I think GF execs are mad that BW wasn’t successful, and since then have been actively trying to find an ultimate way to tank the series, hence all the bullshit we have had to deal with in the 3D era. (3/3)

PooPoo Complete Okay Guys

...Shutting Down

Since you're pointing out gen 6, 7 and 8 (with PLA being the exception) were bad, spammers will try to spam your thread

No. It's just ridiculous how some manchildren are very invested in a nintendo franchise

>try to kill off your series
>dicksucking manchildren keep buying it anyway

SwSh and BDSP are living proof that Pokemon is "untankable" as these glue-eaters will mistake shit for gold around every corner.

This is quite a schizo cope. The actual issue is that theyre trying to keep a dev cycle of the same length as the ds games which obviously doesnt work when youre working with 3d games because theyre more intensive. this whole theory of yours completely falls apart when you take legends and sv into consideration which have improved the franchise. the dex cut is so they manage the workload better, as we can see from legends they remade all the models and added new animations, theyre trying to improve

>theyre trying to improve
But why now? Why not 10 years ago?

Reminder Pokemon is for all ages. Developers themselves have said and repeated it. More than that, Pokémon audience is composed in its majority by adults. As it wasn't evident enough with kanto shilling everywhere.

Don't feed the trolls

10 years ago XY came out, by shifting to 3d you can claim that they were also trying to improve then, same with the transition from ORAS to SM, they finally made full size player models and a non gridbased world. USUM was also the hardest pokemon game in a while, depending on how you look at it, they have been improving. Regardless now theyre on a home console so they cant get away with the same shit they did on the 3ds, as we saw with the swsh shitshow, they also knew this and its the reason we have legends now. And as much as you dont want to admit it the dexcut was necessary, the amount of work it takes to manage 900 creatues is immense, now they can shift focus to other areas of the game instead of making sure that illumise gets in

>But why now? Why not 10 years ago?
because they're 2D console devs, and they were thrown for a loop with the relatively modern switch hardware. Keep in mind that the GBA and DS all used a very specific type of system architecture to which the developers' skills easily transfer to. XY was rouch and SuMo was marginally better, but the Switch was the straw that broke the camel's back because it's essentially a PC (it has an Nvidia Tegra chip so you can basically develop games as if they're for PC) Game Freak's decades of expertise in hacky proprietary hardware was thrown into the trash once they were forced to develop for a modern architecture

"You'll buy it anyways" will always be the golden rule for pokemon games. Even if your conspiracy theory is true, we'll be well into gen 50 before the opinions of normies is swayed against TPC.

>pointing out a subjective opinion

>constant Charizard and Gen 1 shilling, which they would know alienates and upsets the hardcore fans
You dumbass, gen 1 fans literally are the hardcore fans.

>as we can see from legends they remade all the models and added new animations, theyre trying to improve
Every pokemon in PLA had like two animations they reused for every single move.

>subjective

yes. its subjective.
