i've been toying about with the idea of a gym leader that focuses on sun and a combined dual typing of grass and fire, so here it is.
oh ice has always had a lot of potential to be a good early game gym type

Ok. So here.
The gym is simple : To reach the champions, each time, you have the choice between two ways. Each one leads to a double fight, against two trainers, but in the first one, the trainers will each specialize in physical type pokemons (rock, ground, dragon, etc...) and in the other one, they will be specialized in a special type (water, electricity, fairy...).
The champions are a couple, where the girl is a specialist in Fighting and the guy in Psychic.
In the games, the player does this gym alone, but a defeated opponent will explain that some trainers prefer to pair up to try to beat it.
sure, if you wanna listen to my autistic rambling, here. Haven't really thought of a name for the gym leader, but leaning towards Vinca.
Vinca does shady business with the evil team since the gym does not get enough support from the Pokemon league to sustain itself. The reason why they don't get funds I haven't really figured out yet, but probably due to 'low performance in national events' given how Ice-types aren't really that great. Vinca has been told to consider changing the gym's typing, but she vehemently refuses to do so.
Due to not being sufficiently well funded, the ice puzzles are now just puddles and the gym is incredibly barebones it might aswell be Brock's Gym 2: Electric Boogaloo.
The budget problem extends to Vinca sending out the gym trainers disguised as the evil team grunts with Ice-type mons to steal money and pokemon to sell from poor trainers unfortunate enough to lose to the grunts.
Story eventually concludes with Vinca ultimately retiring (possibly being jailed) and returning just about everything she stole, with the gym now being replaced by another type.

The Gym Leader is likely the first one, who lives in a comfy little town. To say his presence is the opposite of the town's vibes is an understatement! He's loud, aggressive, and if we're a bit more "mature", vulgar. A parent of his passes away very recently by the time you get there, and he's been appointed the Gym Leader so he's just a liiiiiiiiittle edgy.
After some slight drama you end up battling him expecting a Grass Gym Leader only for him to set the place ablaze with his Torkoal 'n shit.
After the battle he decides to resign and becomes a rival and adopts a Fire/Grass centric style 'n shit and mellows down.

this took me far too long to make, but here it is.
The basic idea for this gym leader is that she specializes in "shelled" pokemon. Every member of the team has a shell of sorts or is encased in something, and I thought that was a really cool theme. If I must stick to a type, it would be very easy to pivot into a water type gym leader by using things such as clampearl, carracosta, cloyster, omastar, and so on.
She's this experienced, pretty badass diver and explorer. Been around, did everything from rock climbing to deep sea diving and probably still does some of it on the side. Shell pokemon are resilient and that's what she prizes, you gotta be able to take a hit and go with the flow to get out of adventuring alive. The battle would definitely be one of attrition because the whole team is made to take a fucking minute to go down.
The gym puzzle would probably involve going underwater by using Dive, in an underwater ruin-like thing a bit like Undella in BW. Inside there would be a bunch of giant clams that the player could interact with; some would have pokemon inside, some would have gym trainers, and only one would have a "treasure pearl" that the player had to present to go to the next level of the gym. Upon finding 2 pearl, one blue and one red, the player could get to the gym leader herself.
The keystone would be on the back of an old compass the leader always uses to go adventuring.
I know the team is a bit schizophrenic with the pokemon being shuffled around a lot, but there's just so many cool shelled pokemon that it would be a damn shame to not make use of the variety.

funnily enough, i tested it with around level 12 mons and a singular rock type like roggenrola kinda takes care of most of it. even if the roggenrola gets killed by the spheal, a water type mon can usually clean up after

Gym Leader's official name is Yor (or Yoru in Japanese version). He was originally your rival in the previous game but became a gym leader in Cheren/Blue fashion.
But Yor has a dark past. He might've been your rival but he was also a running an evil organization called "Team Nightmare". After a certain incident relating to Darkrai and Eternatus, he disbanded the organization. Yor's relationship with the player character also played a part in his redemption.
His identity remains a mystery to everyone in the region with the exception of a select few. The champion (his rival aka the previous player) used his power and influence to give him the Gym Leader position despite his questionable history.
Yor's personality is, as you already guessed it, pretty edgy. He is quiet and anti-social but is very wise and experienced. He gives you advices before and after you battle him. His battle phrase is, "Are you willing to do what it takes to survive in this unforgiving world?"
It's a pain in the ass to survive this gym. The gym is pitch black, and you never know when the gym trainers are going to catch you off guard. The puzzle is a normal maze but the pitch black nature of the gym and trainers waiting in ambush makes it tough.
The gym is located in Artemis City. A big and prosperous city but full of crime and violence. The crime rate has fallen after Yor took control of most of the gangs in the city.
That IS pretty edgy, but cool nevertheless

Normal Type Gym Leader:
The Gym Leader is a University Student who has a fondness for animals (hence his team being based on Normal Type Animals). He is unsure about his place at the future. He worries that he is not a good Gym Leader when compared to the other Gym Leaders and dislikes the reputation of Normal Types as the basic. He starts off dispondant at first and is absent from the Gym through going on a walk but once you convince him, he decides to challenge you. The battle boosts his confidence and he decides to have more confidence in his Pokemon and himself.
The Gym takes aspects from University.Setting the Gym in a section of the University that the Gym Leader attens. The Player will have to choose which books to insert into certain areas that corrspond to the questions being asked. For example - what Pokemon evolves through a specfic Moon Cycle. The player would insert the book about Ursaluna in and you can progress.
