Hey Any Forums, advice on entering the finance sector?

I know a lot of people have struck it rich here trading crypto and such, but does anyone actually work in finance as their normal job? I'm assuming some here do.

I'm currently zogbotting. I've zogbotted most all of my entire adult life (I'm 25), and while I know the military, for both justified and unjustified reasons, doesn't get much respect of Any Forums, it has set me up and allowed me to get a four year degree paid for, as well as allowed me to have a stipend while I get said degree. Yes yes welfare queen yada yada, I get it, but I would like something akin to mentorship because not only do I want to make money, I also want to actually like. "work," doing it.

So my question is, what would your advice be insofar as entering the financial sector? As in, what degree should I get? Currently I'm thinking about getting my degree in international business administration. Is that a good degree? What should I do to make myself attractive to firms? Where should I try and steer myself towards? By this I mean, I have heard cautionary tales about how NYC is not what it once was, that jobs such as stock broker and financial analyst are moving to places such as Dallas and New York declines. Is this true? What job SHOULD I even try and go for? What training should I try and get? The sky is the limit for the rest of my life, and even though I have had ups and downs in my adult life, I genuinely do want to take a crack at the private sector. Can I get some non meme advice in regards to this please? Thanks.

Tldr. You must be new here fren. But to answer your question, the finance sector is highly oversaturated. Unless you go to a top teir school and know the right people you won't make much money. But thats just from my personal research and experience. Find a skill in the finacial sector: accounting, book keeping, CFP and become good enough to start your own business. But you have to be very good at your job. Average finance cucks wont make it.

What business would I start using these skills?

Childcare.

Just go get a finance degree you fucking moron. You have 4 years to decide what you want to do

I zogged then worked in derivatives. I then did an electrical trade and make more money than the doctors that I know. Finance is he'll mate all sjw affirmative action treat you like a child hellscape.

Also if you're dead set get an accounting degree

Don't, it's oversaturated. CS (major in data structures or something) + Economics (with a focus on micro and advanced econometrics) will get you a job anywhere. Finance is a meme now and you can learn everything important by buying two textbooks. Econ is only good because it gives you a more rigorous understanding of data analysis, math, business operation and people skills.

What do you mean by work in derivatives? What does that entail?
What does CS stand for, apologies.

Computer Science, the only way to make good money in finance is through suffering 16 hour days 7 days a week in Asia. The money is gone in merica unless you're born into it.

What? I work in corporate finance and I work way less than 40 hours a week and make good money. Why are you talking about shit you don’t know about?

Depends on what you consider good money. I don't consider anything lower than $150k per year as good money.

Interest rate swaps, fx trades, credit default swaps etc. I worked on a project to implement systems to comply with new rules post 2008. I made a contract and got in with name dropping. Also had a law degree and a programming background. Would not recommend. Find a way to work for yourself. Trades are the easiest way to do this.

I make 130 if you include my bonus. Getting a rise in feb as well

I make $210k excluding bonus, im trying to pivot into the public sector though.

Ok?

>What business would I start using these skills?
Thats a redundent question. If you chose accounting, start an accounting business, if you choose broking, start a brokerage business, etc. Do your own research and decide what's right for you.

Would being a broker not be entering into an oversaturated market though?

Banks always need bankers, RMs and other client facing roles. forget being a broker, it’s not 1990 anymore

Okay so, I'm a broker. I open a business. Could I do this anywhere? Because I would like to live in Hawaii one day and maybe that would be cool? Idk do you think that is stupid?

You’re describing a financial advisor. There’s still certificate test you have to pass to manage money for clients. You can open an office and attracts clients after all that bullshit I guess

Okay. Makes sense. Thanks.

Yes it would. I was just giving an example.
