It's the reason they are the land of "free" gibs yet their services always run at a deficit. The NHS for example, is broke. And the reason is essentially the same reason some medicines in America can end up costing millions of dollars. Because the government will allocate some resources to buy that medicine, no matter how absurd and non-sensical big farms makes the prices for those meds. Which leads to shortages at times or a massive deficit that will require more control in the form of taxation over your life. And even if it ran at 100% taxation, meaning you'd be a slave to the government, it still wouldn't be enough money.

Well, the current glut of boomers retiring is something bound to happen after a demographic shift, meaning that we just have to sit it out. After all the boomerfags finally die, and the younger population isn't as financially strapped anymore, they will have more children again.
