The problem is that Shedinja dies in one hit, so it can't take a move and switch in the same way that a bulky Pokemon with teleport can.
Ever since LGPE, Teleport allows you to switch out to another team member and it has -6 priority.

Well you don't use Shedinja the same way as any other pokemon. If you send it out to a mon you know can't get past Wonder Guard you basically have a free good switch to whatever it sends out to counter Shedinja.

and gen 8 brought triple axel, dual wingbeat, and urshifu, which it also does lots of work against.

Yes. It works since gen 8 as a negative pirority U-Turn wirh no damage. One of the best moves in the game. Pokemon like slowbro and chansy wall a hit. And you get a free switch in.
