I didn't play most games at launch so that's mostly why I was able to give so much of it a pass, me not being a fan of rpgs and mostly playing for the monsters helped too
With dlc it feels like they were holding back, as it seems the newer games got shorter, maybe it's just me

RPGs are my fav genre, it's the best story telling medium in games. We hardly knew anything about the pokemon despite having in the party, we hardly seem them interact with the world.
