I'm honestly starting to think Ash may use reserves after all. It seems they're giving each of his current team members a major win before Master Class even starts. While I think they'll all be in the Leon match, the other matches might be free for some old pokemon to return. The ones they gave some spotlight to like Infernape, maybe Greninja, the Kanto starters, maybe Incineroar if it gets some focus in the next SM cameo, might be likely. Hopefully Sceptile to give AG some representation too.

Just remembered the Sylveon on this poster, lol. Looks like almost everything is covered besides the Kanto starters getting a full reunion. I really wonder how much of this arc was already planned ahead in 2019
She got a ME evolution which showed her growth as a trainer and completely transformed her gym. I don't know how you spin that regression.

Did the mega turn her into a stronger trainer? Did the mega allowed her to become a Water master? Did the mega even give her any sort of ascention from being a gym leader?
That's how I know it's not progress, because it hasn't done anything for her goal.

The Gyms have no set order in the anime like the games. She's not the "second" Gym. Likewise a person with 3 regions of experience can come to Kanto as their fourth region and battle her with a strong team. It's obvious Misty won't use her Mega Gyarados against rookie trainers from Pallet coming to her with a Pidgey or Rattata.
