Create a backstory for a Rival

>really coddled growing up
>afraid of confrontation
>wears a fanny pack
>gets his starter and loses his first battle against the MC
>this warps his brain, and from there on out he adopts the most AIDs ridden strategies available to avoid losing
>cheeses his way through the E4 and becomes Champ
>when he's down to two Pokemon and you have more Pokemon than him, he asks the player to agree to make it a two on two (you can say yes)
>before his last Pokemon faints, he returns it to its Poke Ball and makes up a bullshit excuse to give you the title
>is never seen or heard from again

Thought this was heading to the shiity “rival becomes a cynical edge lord and joins the evil team” trope but this is great. My idea is a prodigy suffering from burnout who learns to find battling fun again.

Isn't that just Cheren?

>AIDs ridden strategies available to avoid losing
This better be some shit like a Corvi+Pex Stall team

Mine is the boss of the evil team in the sequel, they do petty stuff but the real objective is creating the ultimate pokemon team.

No, Cheren wanted to become a champion and that is it, no other goal or motivation other than that and, in Alder's words, had no idea what being "strong" truly means which kinda gives him an identity crisis.

Wtf is his problem

It’s somewhat similar but it’s not the same thing. said it well
Simple yet effective: I like it.

>grew up in a secret base away from civilization
>parents were ace trainers/veterans who disappeared looking for title legendary
>doesn't speak
>starter is an evolved regional rodent
>found rummaging through pokemon lab dumpster right after you pick your starter
>scurries back innawoods when defeated
>accidentally thwarts villain team's second appearance and disappears again
>steals some key item from you midgame
>spends whole story repairing parent's pokedex/nav/gear
>gear reveals villain team forcing parents to find legendary for them
>catches the other legendary of the duo to try to rescue them
>protag helps with the rescue and catches title legendary

the s in AIDS is capitalized

nah you are

> encounter evil team at the beginning of the game when a single grunt is attempting to rob the professor's lab
> beat him with whichever starter you pick
> this makes him mega seethe and he vows to crush you again
> shows up again repeatedly, both in evil team encounters and just randomly on the adventure
> one of the numerous grunts you encounter along the way will randomly be him ("Ahah! I've been waiting for you!")
> Even forces himself into one of the Admin fights for a double battle simply because he didn't get to fight you yet this time
> even as the evil team's actions continue to get more and more serious due to whatever box legendary is involved he continues to try and impede your progress through inane roadblocks
> None of the other grunts or admins like him much and you find out that no one on the team even knows what his name IS
> around the climax rival realizes that, through TEH POWER OF FRENSHIP :D, you were the only person who would stand being around him and entertain his desire to battle and feel important
> maybe that you two are even... friends?
> helps you fight the evil team leader who is using both box legendaries in another double battle
> Before he leaves, he asks you to give him a name
> leaves and doesn't reappear until the post game, where he appears in a few optional areas for extra battles and can then be refought bi-daily

Okay.
>Popular, strong, brave, great at everything
>Hometown hero, loving parents, hot sister
>Has known the MC since preschool
>Has bullied the MC since becoming popular
>Sees Pokemon as tools, but is a skilled trainer
>Plays off first loss, but avoids battling you directly for a while
>Has his toadies harass you in the meantime
>Meanwhile he consistently thrashes NPCs, both good and bad
>Tells friendly girl supporting character to ditch you
>Reputation sours after you save the day when he just took off
>Fights you again, loses, and even his lackies abandon him
>All he has left are his pokemon
>Claws back up and makes his team really strong
>No longer antagonistic toward you, not flexing anymore.
>Helps against the evil team at the climax.
>Acknowledges you as the better trainer.
>Takes his final defeat with grace and decides to travel the world with his pokemon

Pretty standard. I just want a fun over the top antagonistic rival without the edge

A rich girl who is obsessed with legendary Pokémon.

Her team are all legendaries that other people caught for her.
In the storyline you see how she will be the main antagonist trying to get the box legendary and fighting you every time you are close to catch any mythical or legendary Pokémon.

She has two hunters that you also face off from time to time, two siblings. They are both honorable and treasure hunters, capable trainers. You usually fight them with their uncompleted team since they share Pokémon to each other when they go to different mission, so it's always their main Pokémon and a Pokémon of the area.
The brother usually fights double battles, the sister usually spends singles.

The rich girl finds out that his father is the evils team leader. She helps you defeat him.
When you defeat her she realizes that the legendaries weren't strong enough because she didn't care to bond or earn their respect. So she releases them into the wild allowing you to catch them.

Kinda sounds like Jr. Troopa from Paper Mario

Haha, not exactly who I was thinking of but I can see the similarities. I was basically thinking along the same lines as (kino concept btw) with an antagonistic rival who stirs up trouble but isn't just a complete dickweed

>She starts as the professor's assistant
>After seeing you take a Pokemon and learn that you're going on an adventure she decides to sneak out and go on one of her own
>You find her before the first gym battle and learn that she took the other two starters.
>She's very autistic about battling and Pokemon in general
>She gets pouty when she loses but doesn't hold it against you
>Throughout your journey you meet and battle each other several times
>Her mother is the 7th gym leader and she feels very nervous about taking her on
>You do a double battle with her against some trainers to boost her confidence as well as yours.
>Her mother sees this and decides to do a double battle against you and her
>After you win her confidence is restored
>She challenges you before the Elite 4
>You beat her and she looks sad at first, but accepts her defeat and stays to cheer you on
>She gives you a kiss on the cheek after you become Champion
>Potential post-game dating route

He's your friend from childhood. you share bants, he's pretty much your equal. He gets the same starter as you, and later gives you an egg of one of his pokemon, because he likes comparing himself to you on even ground. The elite 4 ends up being a doubles tournament, and you and he become joint champions.

Literally Volkner. I don't what was thinking.

Cute cute CUTE

Mine is a cynical edgelord, but with a different spin on the trope. His philosophy is "Everyone has the potential to be strong, but few actually try," and he'd deem "weak" people as not worth his time. He'd be super caring to his Pokemon, though. Also his partner would be a Ledian

>Her father is the champion of the Pokemon league for this region
>She sees you battle the professor for your first Pokemon Battle in an online video and asks her dad if she can battle you
>Her dad, the Champion, flies over to you on his Ace Pokemon to have you battler her before a meeting
>She uses two low level Pokemon, both of which only know Splash
>After losing she asks her father to join in for a double Battle, and he obliges, sending out a member of his team, albeit lower level
>If her dad's Pokemon is alive he uses Max Revives on her Pokemon whenever they faint, defeat him to win
>After you win the battle, she runs away crying and her father apologizes and gives you extra money for each encounter
>5 encounters in game, her dad progressively shows off more of his Pokemon team in battle, besides a secret powerful member (Mythical Pokemon of the region)
>After the penultimate encounter you find her crying in a late-game route, and she asks how you're so good at battling
>She asks to come with you to train
>She becomes your double battle partner for the next route (even though she doesn't help much), and after watching you she manages to defeat a wild Pokemon on her own in a cutscene near the end
>Final battle, she asks to do it on her own without her dads help
>She still only has 2 Pokemon, but instead of knowing Splash, they know Flail
>She loses horribly, but pledges to beat you after you win the Pokemon League
>She has a post-game fight where those two Pokemon have full-fledged movesets, though they're only level 20 at this point
