"real life" style pokemon art usually makes the pokemon look pretty ugly regardless of the arts true quality. Go on google images or any image site and you will see what i mean. When detective pikachu was announced i was skeptical as shit because I was wary of this, but they pulled it off pretty well at least for blockbuster movie standards. to this day ive seen only a handful of images where they can give a pokemon a super realist style and still keep it as cute or appealing as the original designs.
but... maybe this thread can make me eat my words?

I've stated my views on OPs image over in the Eevee thread. I don't judge people who like that, to each their own.
But this is cursed.
I don't think so. Realistic Pokemon is very, very hard to get right in my experience. And everyone seems to have very different ideas of how they should look. I like pic related, but I know some people don't at all.

I heard something about a new live action pokemon movie based on the main series formula a while back and I haven't really heard anything like that since.

Not a fan of that Eevee pic because of how huge those eyes are, but you do you. It’s true though that Pokemon looking realistic yet keeping their style is hard to make look convincing. DP didn’t do that bad of a job of it.

The problem with making the eyes smaller is that it seems to get that strange "Yoda effect" for lack of a better term, like the OP. Though the OP also does the muzzle in a more animal-like style, which looks uncanny to me far more than the large eyes do.

I don't think that any of the Pokemon would look ugly or more scary IRL, aside from ones where that would make sense. Gardevoir is never treated as scary in any of the media, so I think saying it would look horrifying in real life is kinda missing the point of "Pokemon in real life" entirely. I could see it looking like what you posted for sure.
