ITT: Bad things about each generation/region of Pokemon

>Gen 1
Fire Red and Leaf Green not letting you evolve golbat, onix, etc. was really fucking stupid and there is no good reason for it, limiting the player for no reason or because muh original 151 sucks, none of the evolutions are so good they'd completely destroy the game. and for gen 1 specifically, the abysmal movepools of a ton of the mons in the game.

>Gen 2
Trainers in Kanto having pokemon that are level 30-28 when you should be well above that by now, it's really dumb and means you automatically steamroll all of them when you get there. This plus the levels of wild pokemon being the same as in RBY make it a grind to get to Red's level.

>Gen 3
Lack of pokemon variety in water routes despite them making up half the region, so many interesting encounters are locked to be fishing only so by the time you're surfing for half the region all you'll find is Pelipper, Tentacruel, and MAYBE Wailmer and Sharpedo

>Gen 4
Retarded decision to limit the original dex of Diamond and Pearl to 151 pokemon because KANTOOOOO, tons of new pokemon can't even be obtained till postgame in Diamond and Pearl because of this

>Gen 5
Pokemon's evolution levels being tied to the level curve in Black and White. So many gen 5 pokemon evolve at ridiculously late levels, and the majority of them don't even have pseudo legendary stats or anything to justify it, it kills a lot of their viability in later gens too

>Gen 6
Lumiose City, the camera in this place is nauseating and makes it ten times more confusing to get around in than it has to be. Also the Elite four only having four pokemon is fucking stupid and they, the Champion, and every gym leader in Kalos are a joke.

>Gen 7
The bombardment of cutscenes, there are way too fucking many and they make trying to replay Sun and Moon an absolute chore

>Gen 8
The story of Sword and Shield actually feels like an after thought, everything with Chairman Rose at the end is embarrassingly awful and abrupt

>Gen 3
Arguably a nitpick but berries dying

>for each gen/region
>for gen 1 specifically
read you fucking autist

Johto is weak.

GSC has less content than HGSS so consider the latter.

First off, the challenge. The challenge in Johto is notoriously low. You have bosses using incomplete teams with underevolved Pokemon, redundant Pokemon, bare and awful movesets.

Compare this to other games and it forms a stark difference.

Both HGSS and GSC have this problem.

Another issue is the drastically increased handholding, railroading, and sanitized dialogue in contrast even to GSC.

Now I'll look at the plot. It's really not good.

Basically, you have Team Rocket trying to revive itself. But that's all supposed to culminate in an impassioned, feeble cry for Giovanni's return to the gang. First of all, he disbanded Team Rocket in RBY / FrLg himself, and never stated an intention to return or regroup.

Second, they were able to perpetrate some activities well enough on their own without Giovanni, so their stated need for him shows extreme delusion on their part---you either admit this is bad writing on GF's part or else you have to accept that Team Rocket is severely diminished as a threat as a result of this.

Speaking of Team Rocket being a threat, the third point is that Team Rocket accomplishes nothing of significance in the entirety of the plot. The height of their criminal enterprise was taking over the radio tower, and they completely squander this opportunity by, again, making a useless call for Giovanni to come back and lead the gang---why would he even be listening in at that specific broadcast? Why would they need to make a public announcement that had a high chance of failure instead of continuing to seek him out privately? The game lampshades this entirely.

As a matter of fact, the fourth (or fifth point, if you will), is that HGSS retcons the Kanto games' endings through the Celebi event, by having Giovanni holed up in a cave just waiting for Team Rocket to call him back---again, even after he personally called it quits, and even despite him having been perfectly capable of returning to Team Rocket at any point before this. So this retcon makes no sense, and is used as a poor excuse to have a Giovanni cameo and battle (which is unsatisfying anyway since his team is shit and you're postgame levels by now).

>Gen 1 = FireRed and Leaf Green
>Whines about what gen 3 game did for the Gen 1
Fucking retarded zoomer

And finally, with regards to the plot, is that the protagonist wasn't needed at all. Team Rocket in Johto is a known and greatly defamed criminal organization but a total shell and complete joke of its former self. In contrast to the deeply embedded into society TR helmed by the powerful Giovanni, which required a prodigy trainer to systematically dismantle its enterprises and leadership, HGSS Team Rocket could have just as easily been shut down by the police or proper authorities, who are basically nowhere to be seen whenever trouble is afoot.

Not only is the plot bad, but the storytelling is cliche since it puts the unneeded protagonist in the shoes of the problem solver, even going so far as to make them the *real* reason Giovanni didn't return to Team Rocket through time travel shenanigans.

HGSS, as far as I can tell, did nothing to rectify the notoriously bad Pokemon distribution of the originals GSC. Pokemon that were Kanto exclusive then are still Kanto exclusive.

Yes, we all know the reasoning and logic behind it. But this is a remake, with the attempt to improve the games, and this is a flaw in 2009 and beyond, which went untouched.

You will waste large amounts of time trying to find and obtain certain Pokemon before the League, unless you're lucky; you will bemoan your constrained choice of options, especially considering how often you've had opportunities to use Kanto mons by now, but how little you've had for Johto mons; you will criticize the choices of version exclusivity; you will quietly curse the inability to evolve your Pokemon to their Gen IV forms before acquiring the National Dex.

Another point of criticism is the lack of real content in both Johto and Kanto, which to be sure has improved a lot since GSC, but you still have pic related as a blot on the record and an indication of the sacrifices needed to include Kanto in spirit.

Holy fucking rent free.

If this isn't proof that Johto is the best Gen then I don't know what is.

Wrong. Johto isn’t “weak”, because in-game strength is relative. Wild Pokémon are lower level and EXP takes longer to get, so it makes since for trainers to be lower level. Only Pryce and the Rocket grunts are underleveled relative to where they are and grunts are always an incompetent joke in all games anyways.
You can’t even say they have incomplete movepools because Gen 5 and oneward have elite 4 with only 3-4 Pokémon and many gyms don’t even have 4 moves in their Pokémon.
You also seem to forget that HGSS has rematches were all the trainers significantly stronger.

>You can’t even say they have incomplete movepools because Gen 5 and oneward
Deflection (not defending them). In isolation, you see Bugsy with incomplete movepools and Chuck with incomplete teams.
>You also seem to forget that HGSS has rematches
Does not change at all the first encounters.

>Gen 1
Buggy mess.
>Gen 2
Boring, no plot, level curve, etc.
>Gen 3
Too much water in RSE, nothing bad to say about FRLG actually. It was a carbon copy of gen 1 but not buggy.
>Gen 4
Horrible pokemon distribution which was only slightly fixed by platinum. The only thing HGSS fixed from GSC is kanto gym leaders' levels and it also added a bunch of retarded gimmicks like pokeathlon.
>Gen 5
Railroading sucked in both BW and BW2. BW's decision to not include any old pokemon was beyond retarded. The flash game bullshit was also fucking dumb.
>Gen 6
I don't mind the Kanto shilling, but the Lucario shilling was disgusting on top of the rest of the issues in the game (important trainers having barely any pokemon, etc). ORAS Mauville city redesign is garbage and not having the emerald story was a miss for sure.
>Gen 7
Lillie isn't naked.
>Gen 8
The story is garbage. BDSP has all the problems of DP, PLA has bad graphics.

>Does not change at all the first encounters.
Yes it does Joe

>Gen 2
>no plot
>but Gen 1 does

Gen 1 had the strongest plot of any pokemon game and the best evil team leader, fuck off.

You are misunderstanding. The 1st encounter is what it is, and rematches don't change what the 1st encounter was. They are irrelevant for the first run, and the first run is garbage.
