As according to who?

Yeah, although themes can work.

Still the ugliest designed starter set next to Gen 5

Typhlosion is themed after a volcano though, it's only the other two that are boring and uninspired.

Me.

Unironically agreed. Theming has become way too on-the-nose in this series in general, from starter evolutions to the regions themselves.

>No themes
>Typhlosion
user...

There are so many Pokemon now that a unique theme or gimmick is the only way to stand out from the hundreds of other Pokemon.

No user, what we really need is more generic animals, that's why Gogoat is so popular and memorable.

No,mr.dumbass

W-what is the theme?

the year of the rat of course

That's a badger, you faggot.

Literally the only reason why it was included in Pla at all.

What are the themes on gen 4???

myths:
son goku
world turtle
napoleon

But Napoleon isn't a myth...

have you ever seen napoleon in real life ?

empoleon is neptune, hence the trident motif

OK sure I've never met him but he's in tons of history books and there's lot of evidences, you'd be dumb as shit to think I never existed.

Themes are not the problem, it's how they're executed. The issue is that it's now theme first + animal second
Gen 4 hits the right balance of having themes and looking like animals. Gen 8 does not.
