Yes. Gold & Silver turned out to be near-flawless games, and set the standard for sequels not only for Pokémon, but for all of gaming.
Objectively speaking, Gen 2 still remains the peak of Pokémon, and nothing has, or ever will, come close to topping it.

Yes, although bear in mind that full Kanto was not added because of Iwata as that's just a misconception of what Morimoto stated in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Overall, what we got was better though. Sure, the beta has some nice designs that would've been nice to see in the final cut, but it was mostly trash.

I do like how scizor looks like an evolution of Scyther, but the Scizor we got is too good. And the beta Girafarig having a proper second head is cool but It guess the devs thought it looked too awkward moving.
We were robbed of Fire Seal, ghost panda and the furry ice one
But overall I’m happy with what we got. .
