RS has 16.22 million while BW sold 15.62 million, so second worst selling. Though the argument that fewer sales means worse games is ridiculous when you notice that all the best games (with the exception of Gold and Silver) like Emerald, Platinum, BW2, USUM, HGSS sold poorly while SwShit is second only to Gen 1 in terms of sales.

It was probably just series fatigue at that point. I like BW but it doesn't really have anything to draw new people in. And it was basically the 3rd gen in a row with no shakeups to the formula.
XY at least had the benefit of being a new gen on a new system with full 3D. There was a lot of hype around it.
