Legends and BDSP were billed as a new direction for the series upon unveiling. Gen 9 doesn't exist, but the next mainline games shifted gears away from the gen approach well before you played PLA and decided you liked it or disliked it.

The advertising campaign was paltry and diluted further by BDSP. I felt like the sprinkling of new forms between August and January was just enough to keep people from forgetting about the game altogether. However in retrospect there wasn't much else to advertise with this game. You can't really show up more without getting into heavier story spoilers
