The upper is a full fledged game with multiplayer and a deep battle system. The lower is a shallow, simple game where you walk around and catch Pokemon. If that's the aspect of the game you've always liked, then good for you, but the people that like the battling side find the lower game not as much fun.

That’s not true. Wild Pokémon that aren’t alphas will still often pick the best combination of moves to win. Their A.I isn’t as good as the trainers as per usual but their A.I is 100% better then every single trainer without the Elite Four or Champion title before their name.
