if i HAD to i'd make speed more important, like how fast pokemon in PLA can get multiple turns. might make shit like electrode more viable.

remove damage rolls, remove crits, make defense stats only be able to be buffed to +2

so speed determines frequency of attacks rather than just who goes first/second?
e.g. each one has a speed meter.
for each attack, the speed meter decreases.
some attacks decrease the meter more than others.
pokemon with higher speed have their meter fill up quicker. so for example, someone with higher speed will be able to get off two or three attacks in the time it takes one pokemon to get off one attack.

Imagine Talonflame going back to Gen 6 level, or an Electrode hitting 5x.

Instead of stall, it's now a game of annoyance you're dealing with. Someone could troll and bring in Barraskuda, who would probably hit Ubers.

Speed stat decides how often you go, not just who goes first. Mega Evolution and Z-Moves both come back for good, but you can only use one of them, and only once per battle.

I think this system has potential, though I feel maybe adding more of the complexities of past games (Abilities and held items) could make the battles more wild. Also allow your player at any time in wild battles to send out up to two other mons would be super based, especially since the enemy can triple team you

speed is literally the most important stat in competitive pokemon, the absolute last thing it needs is a buff

If I were working from the ground up:
