/XMR/ Monero General

Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

Holy shit this shit is hot as fuck, please tell me there's more

STOP MINING IN MINEXMR
>START MINING IN P2POOL
STOP MINING IN MINEXMR
>START MINING IN P2POOL

P2Pool combines the advantages of pool and solo mining; you still fully control your Monero node and what it mines, but you get frequent payouts like on a regular pool.

P2Pool has no central server that can be shutdown/blocked because it uses a separate blockchain to merge mine with Monero. There's no pool admin that can control what your hashrate is used for or decide who can mine on the pool and who can't; It's permissionless!

Decentralized pool mining (P2Pool) is pretty much the ultimate way to secure a PoW coin against 51% attacks. When P2Pool reaches 51% of the total network hashrate, Monero will be essentially invulnerable to such attacks.

YOU CAN NOW MINE IN P2POOL DIRECTLY FROM THE MONERO GUI WALLET!

If you have a PC or laptop:

1. Download Monero GUI
i.imgur.com/ZGefPef.png

2. Pick 'Advanced' mode
i.imgur.com/4c0uSE4.png

3. Set up your wallet
i.imgur.com/4lMKh00.png

4. Keep the default Daemon settings "Start a node automatically in the background"
i.imgur.com/maACmmT.png

5. Once sync'd, go to Advanced->Mining and pick 'P2Pool'. If you have a laptop or low-end PC (~50 kH/s) pick "Mini" pool, else pick "Main"
i.imgur.com/E60JeMG.png

P2Pool-compatible remote nodes if you do not have your own local copy of the blockchain:

>p2pmd.xmrvsbeast.com - (Western Europe) (rpc-port 18081, zmq-port 18083)
>myxmr.net - (Northern Europe) (rpc-port 18081, zmq-port 18083)

OTHERWISE SWITCH TO A SMALLER POOL, IT TAKES YOU 30 SECONDS AND YOU CAN JUST SOURCE A DIFFERENT CONFIG FILE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FUCK UP YOUR EXISTING ONE.

Many inexperienced miners think that big pools give better profits which is not the case. Your profits in the long run depend only on your hashrate, not on the pool's hashrate.

>The irrational exuberance of cryptocurrency investors

Irrational exuberance is characterized as a hype-fueled mania that causes investors to massively overestimate an asset's real-world value. In this delusional state, investors tend to become so smitten with expectations of greater profits that they disregard the assets’ potentially weak fundamentals and drink the proverbial Kool-Aid.

This then leads to them recklessly and repeatedly buying into whatever asset is currently rising in the charts, thereby triggering and/or sustaining an asset bubble. This bubble is kept inflated solely by the mass delusion that the market price is justified and will only keep going up in future, effectively becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Note that bubbles can last for years, especially in an age of easy investor on-boarding. However, when history inevitably repeats and the bubble bursts that optimism invariably turns into panic as the asset crashes back down to its real-world value.

In finance, the "greater fool theory" suggests that one can sometimes make money through the purchase of overvalued assets—items with a purchase price drastically exceeding the intrinsic value—if those assets can later be resold at an even higher price.

In this context, one "fool" might pay for an overpriced asset, hoping that he can sell it to an even "greater fool" and make a profit. This only works as long as there are enough new "greater fools" willing to pay higher and higher prices for the asset. Eventually, investors can no longer deny that the price is out of touch with reality, at which point a sell-off can cause the price to drop significantly until it is closer to its fair value, which in some cases could be zero.

This effect is often further exacerbated by herd mentality, whereby people hear stories of others who bought in early and made big profits, causing those who did not buy to feel a fear of missing out.

Anons, I need to tell you guys a story about my tryst with XMR.

Long read, so grab a drink and read through.

It was the year of our lord 2020, early spring...

Me was a 9gag fag for nearly 8 years. Was indeed aware of this dark and forbidden place called FoChang.. but had not dared to lurk close to it.

Around 2016 I had once encountered /lit/ board thanks to some plebbit comments. That was all the interactions I had with this god forsaken place.

WFH started and I stopped working and instead browsed random sites mindlessly throughout the day. Opened a dozen of trading accounts after I heard about the scheduled BRRRR. I always thought cryptographic coins are a scam, USD and God are eternal and Stock Market is how you beat financial hurricanes. Any Forums and Any Forums were fr MVPs those few months.

An acquintance visited me over a weekend, I was bragging about muh day trading shenanigans and he said "bruh, you heard of them cryptos?"

Uh yea, I had heard of them indeed. My cousin has been mining it for north of 4 years.. whatevs! they be useless said I. Importantly, I had heard of them on Any Forums - my new sweetheart.

Okay, I said, I need to buy me some cryptos.

I KYCd myself and created an account on a digital asset company with VISA debit card (Free ya'al) and I even bought bitcorns there. Only and only then I looked at its price evolution and boy did I curse myself!

I lurked more on Any Forums and fags used to yell "Not your keys, Not your crypto" in every bitcoin thread. Tha phuck is a key? I thought to myself. I looked up the DA company's subredit - boy was I in for a revealation. I lost just a couple of hundred bux, cuz the company went MIA.

Anons told me to create a paper wallet, buy bitcoins on Binance and send it to my paper wallet. The fuck is a private wallet?

Nyways, I discovered that there are like a billion coins on binance, which should I buy?

contd.

I lurked more and more on Any Forums and thought "my cousin MINES them, how bout I mine it as well?".

Mmediately, rented a VPS and decided to mine.

There are N-versions of the same coin.. The Fuck? I read more about BTC history, BCH fork and all the shit. I was convinced BSV is the real bitcoin and sucked Craig's cock for two long days. I decided to mine BSV through a mining pool.

I discovered there is something called 'Hash Rate' that decides how much coins you get. Mine was in KHs and the pool was in EHs.. that cannot be right. The software should have a typo in there, somewhere.

I then discovered something called ASIC which is like the ebil thing that centralizes mining. All bought and paid by the Cinese Communist Party.

That made me say, fuck it, I will just buy coins on binance. Again, I remembered that there are like a billion coins on binance, which should I buy?

I was sold on LINK, XRP, POLKA, ALGO, DOGE, ETH.. all those were capped in supply.
I did remember a frog wearing orange t-shirt that says 'XMR, didnt read, never selling'. I looked XMR up and it appeared to have an unlimited supply. No thanks I said.

This continued for about half an year.. I lurked more on Any Forums and learnt that, in future, cash would be digital and every transaction would be behaviourally analysed.

Hmmmm. I thought.. That looks bad.

So i went on /lit/ and asked "Do you have any books on how to live in a society where all financial transactions are known to the government."
The thread got 1 reply "Ask Any Forums, but you probably have already asked there" and got banned for offtopic posting.

I continued buying more and more LINK, as I was sold on the esoteric aspects (I also discovered /x/ ya'al). And DOGE because Musk, and CARDANO because it is future (or something).

Do any sites accept xmr for precious metals yet?

This better be good, newfag.

contd.

One fine evening I came across picrel.

Da fuck is a monero? and what is atomic swap? , I only know cum swap.

For some reason "2011 Whale wallets moving" resonated with me.

I bought 100 euros worth of monero.

Learnt more about privacy.. HOLY FUCK! THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!

I studied more, bought 500 euros worth of monero.

I studied more, started buying 500 euros of monero every month (along with other cryptos).

I studied more, started buying 500 bux monero every month.

I studied more, sold every other crypto and bought monero, this time on localmonero.

Decided to mine monero as well! the fuck when the total has rate is so low! IMGMI!

I studied more about ASIC resistance, stopped ETF buying and instead bought monero.

Started mining XMR on my VPS using minexmr (obviously).

I studied more, diverted my weekly swiss hooker procurement funds to buying XMR.

Studied more and more and more thanks to Any Forums... about finance, kikery, history, macro, micro, inflation... you name it.

More than half my NW is in Monero lads.

I do not care to be rich. I just want to buy organic butter, fresh veggies, small parcel of land in rural area, flourideless water, grass fed meat, organic eggs and 20 year old bony tall girls without the government-kike poking it's long nose into my business.

I do not care to be rich, I just want to be left to my own, I have never harmed anyone, I will not harm anyone.. I just want to persue my interests without someone stealing my labor or cheating me of my fruits.

I cancelled my VPS subscription today. From today, I will neither be mining nor be buying monero.
I have bought and mined enough for my heart and gut's content.

For all it is worth, I will lurk this general once in a while...

And all my moneros, for the record, were lost in a boating accident, it was more painful than holocaust.
