The problem is not boring work, the problem is meaningless work. Companies hire to improve bottom line or please the government. 90 percent of employees have no immediate effect on companies earnings.

The big question is why do they hire so many people. The answer is to get tax breaks. Taxation has successfully plunged humanity to the deadly abyss of meaningless jobs. As a wise man said, a road to hell is paved with good intuitions.

We are living in a modern version of hell. You don’t exist and your work has no value. You are a number in the balance sheet. If you look back and analyze your past, present and future , you will be hard pressed not to jump out of a window.

Why don’t we have mass suicides then? Maybe people hate uncertainty or still superficially connected to protestant work ethic. Living one more day to do meaningless work to buy meaningless things.

Human labor can have meaning if it is tangible and continuous. How many people do you know working 30–40 years for some concrete things? Like making the next St peters basilica or the next long term project.

In modern society it is government and corporations which is driving long term projects. But due to elections and short term stock market fascination, these institutions have failed.

The last bastion of long term-ism is academia and even that is facing an existential crisis. Most papers are just published on fads or rehash of existing publications. We have paid research as well which is killing the very idea of science.

Religion used to make us think of long term-ism. But no one rationally believes in religion anymore. The lunatics have taken over religion and radicalism is rampant.

So when all these institutions have failed in creating sustenance , humans have to take it into their own hands. We are back into the middle ages. A new sort of feudalism has taken over society. Waiting for the next renaissance.
