20 years ago today: Wrestlemania X8

Or as I like to call it: Rock, Hogan and the other couple of fellas. What went right/wrong?

It should have been the invasion blow-off

Imagine if Hogan vs Rock happened during the pandemic era. Would have been terrible. That’s why it’s a bad match imo. If you mute the crowd it’s boring as fuck.

I can’t put my finger on it but something about this image is so soulless, shit graphics both washed up no story, just soulless

Stone Cold in 2002 was pretty soulless 2bh. Those two heel turns in 2001 killed his aura even he was still really over afterwards.

It's one of the most average wrestlemania ever
I can't think of a single great match on it

The day that confirmed that Dwaynetty would never match Hogan in popularity.

Rock had the worst fucking shirts

They botched that angle so badly though that by survivor series it had already overstated its welcome

>Right
The profits.
>Wrong
Almost everything else went wrong because of how inconsequential everything ended up to be. Hogan got another run and Haitch got a title, that's it.
All of it ended by August, with only Rock being able to deal with the shit the board was coming up with.
Jericho got relegated to the midcard while Austin slowly cruised to retirement.
They got lucky they had dimes encarnations like Lesnar debuting and Micheals coming back, otherwise they would have had to work properly to fix the aftermath of this show.

Up until the Mania match and its great crowd reaction, the Rock/Hogan "feud" was pretty soulless too. If someone had told you in 1998 or 99 that Stone Cold and the Rock feuding with the original 3 of the nWo would be the lamest thing ever, you would've never believed it.
The real problem is that thanks to over exposure and shit booking, Austin and Rock were both rapidly becoming parodies of themselves by 2002. And the completely neutered and even worse booked WWF version of the nWo even moreso. Make this feud prime Attitude Austin/Rock vs. the actual WCW version of nWo and you'd have a totally different vibe.

It was good from start to finish

Some people didn't wanted NWO Hogan, because muh american hero, but that people has brain damage

said well sirs

Meanwhile Austinetty ran away from a match with Hogan because he was afraid Hulkster would hit him with the big boot, the leg drop and the 1-2-3 KWAB

Hall was at a bad time in his life, fucked up on alcohol and drugs and couldn't be bothered to do anything tha going through the motions and Steve Austin understandably didn't want to work with him

Too bad the crowd is part of the experience. A good performer works the crowd.

Rock was a parody of himself by 2000.
Smackdown was a mistake.

Turning Jericho heel when he was white hot & turning Angle heel after 9/11
The Austin HHH feud from 1999-2001
Pushing Triple H in 1999 resulting in a planned Austin heel turn angle due to him flopping
Pushing Triple H when everyone backstage told Vince it wasn’t a good idea
The entire unification title bullshit when Rock & Austin already put Jericho/Angle over clean on consecutive PPV’s for the belt
Pushing Big Show in WM2000 main event when even he said he didn’t deserve it
The McMahon Hemsley faction
Allowing Stephanie to be a on screen character
Letting Bret Hart leave in montreal
Allowing the Kliq to gain so much backstage influence
Blowing a shot at bringing in Hulk Hogan & Savage during the Monday night wars

If Hogan Rock happens at WM2000 & Hogan Austin happens at WM17, who gets put over at WM18?

aww somebody didn't take his vitamins :-)

Billy Gunn should have run in after the match and hit both these shitters with a Fame Asser
