Literally this. Normal people don't stick around for a top good guy who is getting booed. They do stick around for a top bad guy who is getting cheered though. It turns out normal people like positivity and when they see big happy crowds, they want to be happy like them. So if you make your show designed to have a lot of cheering in the beginning, some booing in the middle and a lot of cheering at the end, people seem to dig that. When the show ends on booing, that's not fun and people definitely don't want to end a show booing multiple times in a row.
