For me, it helps to give myself some spending money every week. My savings automatically transfers some $ every week to my chequing account. This helps to stop more impulsive purchases.
It's kind of like meal prepping but instead, it's budgeting. People are surprised by how many calories they eat in a day when they don't track it, it's the same with money.
