At one point, Capitalism is not about being useful, and producing useful item, answering to social demand. It's about the act of extracting wealth from wage workers (surplus value, profit). Whatever what is produced and sold. If needed by mandatory sale of useless products (electric cars, wind turbines, vaccines, etc...).
The more value is extracted like this, the more "power" the "elite" has over the cattle.
