Yes everyone has combos. Strikes combos were already in the game, you just spam the strike button and it did 3 in a row automatically. They just added a move on the end to it now too. That doesn't mean you have to do the combo to do these moves. They already clarified this.

If they're universal, it's fine. The button combos for the Acclaim games sucked because there was so many of them for every move and they were all different between characters. Doing a hurricanrana with Shawn Michaels was up down circle or something and doing the same hurricanrana woth X-Pac was right up triangle. It was impossible to memorize them. Mortal Kombat has 7 characters with 3 to 4 special inputs to remember each. Attitude had 40 characters with 30 each.

Just like No Mercy, All Stars, and pretty much all good wrestling games. A grapple system like this gives you more options and if you do it right, barely messes with the pacing. The old SVR games fucked it up by making you watch a 3 second long test of strength animation before every single suplex and slam.
