Hindu here, similar interpretation for me regarding finances. I pray to our mother Lakśmi for financial abundance and success. But spiritual abundance supercedes such, and if Krishna (the manifestation of the realized Atman, avatar of Vishnu, Preserver of Brahman [aka the All-God]) wishes to override my baser desire for the desire of my Atman for spiritual liberation, Mother Lakśmi will move aside and so be it. Luckily, sometimes the two coincide, where my spiritual liberation is not affected or possibly even enhanced by financial success, this is where I make the money. This is also why the Lord Ganesha is important as with his hy Goads, he moves Karma, Prana, and Dharma in a way that makes it most auspicious for his devotees, so they all coincide beneficially. He's like the ultimate spiritual agent, my life improved tenfold after becoming a devotee of Lord Ganesh, Deva of the Remembered Wisdom and Remover of Obstacles.

Basically why a human stays "poor" (financially) is because:

A. They are a very new Human soul (Jiva) and therefore it is much more important that the soul undergoes the narrowed path of Karma to send them on the right way of knowing (at the deepest level i.e "chitta") what is means to not have and therefore be charitous.

B. There are certain karmic factors at play that made a soul "forget" what it should have learned from A. In other words, bad actions and financial selfishness in this or past lives cause you to re-remember what it means to be impoverished.

C. Pranic factors are at play that can easily be overcome, these are the things that most people think they struggle with but it likely only accounts for a quarter of poor people: Being generally low iq, being unhealthy so can't think straight, feeling weak because of poisonous foods, pranically genetic factors.

D. Dharmic factors; if you don't have any of the factors a-c, and are still impoverished long-term, Krishna in his infinite wisdom is saying that being rich would not help you spiritually and yoy are closer to Moksha than you think, focus on the main goal. God provides all you need.
