Depends entirely on your individual circumstances, obligations, abilities, willingness, and goals. The most effective and consistent small business is trucking. 7 weeks for a CDL, two years busting ass as a company driver and saving to get your own truck, and then another couple years to get another truck allowing you to hire employees.
You need experience in the industry to have any clue what the fuck you are doing, and even that isn't enough much of the time. It's really not something someone should be doing if they just want to make a wage, it's something they should be doing if they want to build an empire.
