They’re doing significantly better than anyone thought. For sure. But anyone with a brain knows that Russia is going to smash them and that it’s just a matter of time. Russia went in with a limited invasion, thinking they could control Kiev in like 48 hours. They haven’t even touched their heavier artillery. The more frustrated Putin gets, the more likely he is to bring out his big guns, which could result in tens of thousands (potentially up to 100k) of civilian deaths. That’s what the west is scared of and is making nato rethink it’s course of action. Ukraine can’t win this war alone. It’s legitimately not possible. This isn’t Vietnam.

If Putin is gonna use nukes, then there’s no avoiding it. If he wins in Ukraine, next stop will be an invasion of Estonia or one of the other Baltics. Threat will be NATO abandon Estonia to him or get nuked.
There is no outcome to all this in which Putin does not nuke at least two capital cities.
