They aren't virtue signaling. Without Russian supply, they can argue that they need to raise prices (which is correct). But the trick will be in raising prices far beyond what the supply shock necessitates. They could probably raise prices such that they make an extra dollar per gallon sold on top of the necessary price hikes and most people would not notice. For those that do notice, they'll have the perfect out by simply calling them Russian trolls and shutting down the conversation immediately. It's a near foolproof chance at profit.
