A rate hike would just be a token move, pure theater. It wouldn't wipe out supply shortages, in fact it would make them far worse. Even if you believe the schizo /pmg/ invaders, it's not like 25bps will wrangle 10% compounding hyperinflation. The Fed needs to give journalists a reality check to get inflation expectations under control. The best way to do this would an equally theatric but much louder 25bps cut, to -.25%, just for the next 6 months. This will make businesses confident to use their lines of credit again and get through their supply backlogs, and it will force journalists to stop tacitly supporting communists who just discovered NEETing and don't want to give it up.
