I am growing increasingly frustrated with criticisms of NFTs because they seem to have no basis in reality and history. The main complaint is that when you purchase an NFT, you are really purchasing the receipt, and not the actual content. The thing that I think many people do not realize, is that this is how literally all digital content distribution has worked since the creation of the internet.
Let's use video games for example. When you buy a game, you are paying for the license and not the actual game? It is the same as NFTs except with legacy marketplaces, you have to trust that Steam, for example, will continue to retain the rights and capability to distribute the game.
Universally, across all digital market places, you are only buying the receipt. This is not unique to NFTs.
The innovation that NFTs bring is decentralizing the marketplace through which you you can purchase and resell content. Ideally it would be linked to some form of decentralized, uncensorable storage. This way we wont have abandonware or games getting removed over licensing issues. When you buy it, it's yours forever, and easily sellable/transferable. You don't need an account, just a crypto wallet to verify.
The resistance to NFT tech is fits perfectly within the anti-intellectual era we are living in, but this time it's from "the left".
Gaming PCs that are playing video games almost certainly use more energy than NFT minting. Digital markets also almost certainly use more energy.
At this point I feel like the NFT resistance is a luminous as the fucking sun. It's very obviously a bad-faith psyop.
Fellow Bizraelites, what are we to do in the face of this chronic mental retardation? How can we resurrect the glory of decentralized content distribution? Lets brainstorm on rebranding NFTs.
