There are 2 paths in life, and you obviously chose the wrong one.
Conscious nature can be used for good and for bad.
What you want to strive for is the right attributes for an organism, so that it can survive it's environment.
Clothes made it so that, without it, we cannot survive cold climates, but we can live more efficient int warmer climates. It increases the range of climates that we can comfortably live in.
Now extend that line of thinking to all our technology and habits.
The people that cannot adapt to their environment will likely not reproduce. Or, if they reproduce, the quality will be lower.
Some effects from technology are positive, some are negative. The negative effects often get overlooked or shoved aside for profit.
People are selfish, and greed is sadly also part of being a human.
The cultures that can defend best against greed (and the other sins), progress until they see no reason to progress anymore, they will then engage in frivolous arguments until they self destruct or get taken over by another culture.
