It was never worth giving a shit about. All this stuff means is the show runners are so out of ideas they have to try and capitalize on the outrage of fans when they shit all over the established canon of a series.
They have no problems prominently using randomly positioned ethnicities as a shield from criticism for making a dogshit story that makes no sense and goes nowhere or one dimensional characters with dubious motivations.
