I was a poor fag so I didn't have constant access but it was amazing when I went to a friend's house. Hell, there were more people at the library just using the pc than looking for books by the early 2000s.

You could find uncensored and apolitical forums and chat rooms on any topic. Fps gaming sucked on a phone line so don't let anyone with rose tinted goggles tell you otherwise kek. I used to play checkers and chat on pogo and even met a girl irl from there as a teen. Oh, and women were super approachable back then unlike now with social media. You could message your school's Stacy even if you were at the absolite bottom of the social order and she would talk shit no big deal.

It was cool, you had basically unlimited freedom, no social media only forums and memes altho more locally limited (generally interconnecting with similar themed forum) were funny as hell, today they seem too much weaponized. People discussed via e-mail, there were newsletter and latter rss feed. It was like colonizing a whole new world. I think the most glorious thing about it is that it was mostly annonimous but without the faggotry of 100% annonimity, what I mean by that is that people made their registration and stuck to it.

Modern games and internet culture are politically correct cancerous circle-jerking, partly due to the takeover of such spaces by activists, but also due to a lot of those people being weak-minded and easily influenced by propaganda and social media.
I still get banned from almost every game I play just on principle by saying whatever the fuck I want. Young gamers cannot handle it and flip out as if I'd committed actual, literal violence. They've been conditioned to recoil, censor, and report anyone who violates the social narrative, and will gladly side with amoral corporations who will censor and ultimately steal from people for saying faggot while simultaneously grifting millions of dollars from them via pushing gambling and manipulating other addictive, destructive behaviors. They will be funded by Chinese mega-corps with zero regard for human rights, then they will ban you and send you creepy email lectures about toxicity, honesty, and being a moral and honorable person in their games because you decided to tell someone they sucked or tell a crude joke.

It's fucking psycho, but you can see the active social conditioning and brainwashing of an entire generation of weak young minds into being obedient little Red Guard that will happily turn in their fellow gamers and celebrate as they are banned from even playing the game they bought or using the product they paid for because they typed a forbidden word, all when they simply could've muted them with the click of a single button.

It was great. You could search for stuff and actually find forums and discussions about the topic by real people. Now it's just page after page of top 10 affiliate marketing listicles made by ai or pajeets. I used to get on the old mommy chatrooms and boards I knew were run by jewish women and troll them on circumcision.
