armenia was a proxy state built by russian security forces around the time of WW1 to destabilise the turks because the russians wanted to seize control of the straits and black sea. so they launched the armenian revolution with russian support (although russia failed to really give much actual support to armenians thus leading to the so called armenian genocide). this was one of the main reasons WW1 broke out, because russia was putting pressure on austria in galicia and turkey in the straits.

Exactly. In retrospect it was Russia that was the final nail in the coffin for the Ottoman Empire. Because if not for their aggression and armenian revolt the turks could have secured the oil and gas fields and would have become much more wealthy and powerful. History would have been far different if the Ottoman Empire had continued access to its former vast natural ressources.
