Prove to me math isn't divisive, discriminatory and racist

the answer is obliviously one, I can't imagine how you could even get 6 though

6/2(1+2)=?
6/2=3 (1+2)=3
3x3=9

6/2*(1+2)
3*3
9

>obliviously one
perfect

Do you even PEMDAS, bro

yes but apparently kids these days are taught some different rules and they end up with 1
no idea why

youre a fuckin dumbass thats why you cant see how people think other ways than yourself. its 9 btw

()*/+- order

Thats 9 right? I dunno, i failed math every year of school lmao

they are applying something they learn in algebra about multiplying but are most likely not really taught how to properly divide

md and as are equal

i think its because they just learned about 2() and think it always takes priority, even over division, 2(1+2) first then 6/6

Using a division sign is dumb but the conventional answer would be 1

JUXTAPOSED MULTIPLICATION HAS HIGHER PRECEDENCE THAN DIVISION
DON'T LET PEMDAMERIFATS TELL YOU OTHERWISE

Multiplication and division have equal importance and are done left to right. Division happens first in the equation. It's 9.

80s education says 1.
think about the divide symbol, the dots above and below the line are representative of numbers.
so
6/
2x3

division is just a different way of doing fractions

You’re fucking retarded OP

Its 9, boomers die already.

no i know they fucked around with that, i just don't know why they chose to change the rule

wait a minute
are you trying to say that you're supposed to do all multiplications before divisions?
i guess that's what they changed

but again, i don't know why they changed that
maybe some nigger got it wrong somewhere and nobody had the heart to tell him

btw does this mean additions must be done before subtractions?
>1-2+3=-4

They have same priority at all times. Multiplication is just easier so people tell you to do that first.

Its 3 and 3. Segregate the blacks and whites

they're doing the 2(1+2) = 2*2+2*2 technique but that cant be applied when division's preceding the multiplication

ex 2(1+3)+2(4+4) can be rewritten as 2*1+2*6+2*4+2*4, instead of first doign the brackets and then multiplying
There is a usecase for knowing about this technique although in cases like this its easier to just add the brackets and then multiply, and this technique obviously doesnt work if the two halves are separated by multiplication or division

I think + - are equal. You do them left to right. * and / are the same left to right. () superseeds both, so you do what's in them first in the "hierarchy order".

well this thread has been horrifying

this is one of the moment where I really get to see what "the masses" is all about

no actual mathematician cares about order besides that multiplication is prioritized over addition lol

>2*6
2*3**

>They have same priority at all times.
Only if using binary operators.
Juxtaposed multiplication is a different notation with different precedence, even if it's the same operation.

2(1+2) = 2x
2x must be done before 3÷2x
in the end it doesn't matter because a real equation wouldn't be this ambiguous. In normal cases youd have 6 over 2(1+2)

It's called an obelus (÷). The original meaning was that everything on the left went above the line, and everything on the right went below. Modern math doesn't do use this meaning, and the solidus (/) is preferred to denote division.

it's 1 holy fuck you retards kill me

yeah it seems they learn BIMDAS (or regional equivalent) and don't get told that it's BI MD AS, where neither letter in each pair takes precedence
that is to say, it's brackets and indices first, from left to right as they occur
then multiplications and divisions
then additions and subtractions
but now they're learning to do brackets, then indices, then multiplication, etc, - presumably still going from left to right, at least for now
so apparently 10-5+2=3

the question is, why has this been changed? is this just an internet prank or are zoomers actually no longer taught arithmetic, and if so why?

See for why you’re retarded

>not typing it as 6 / (2(1+2))

>It's called an obelus (÷). The original meaning was that everything on the left went above the line, and everything on the right went below. Modern math doesn't do use this meaning, and the solidus (/) is preferred to denote division.
what you call the solidus is the only thing that should exist stop making things up mutt, if you needed any other way than the only way there is to order operations use parenthèses

this

I'm too busy studying applications of differential equations to worry about this shit.
>1
Goodnight

this is a troll image and the real answer is no one would write an equation this way in an academic text because it is ambiguous depending on culture. Parentheses in general are very discouraged.

Schools aren't about educating the kids anymore.

DID OP USE A SOLIDUS, MOTHERFUCKER?
