Even if it were 100% white anglo-germans Big Easy would not be able to compete with the proper coasts. It's just not as important now as it was to France.

NOLA's like a 3rd world country in a lot of ways. A lot of it is due to corruption and general French incompetence. Great food and music though

The good thing about it though is that it's one of the few cities in the entire fucking US that actually has walkable streets in large areas and not murder stroads, due to it's age.

Despite having incredible amounts of natural resources and being the heart of American oil pipelines much of the land owned by the large corporations operating there are tax-exempt. This is due in part to lazy and corrupt state government giving free lunch to those oil and refining corporations who in turn give little to nothing back to Louisiana in taxes. They’re changing this in recent years because they’ve realized the giant mess they’ve made but New Orleans and Louisiana will likely remain a shithole for years to come. You can’t fix broke schools, busted roads, no hospitals, and underfunded police departments overnight.

New Orleans went to shit the moment the civil war ended, so I'm not surprised. Trade up and down the Mississippi river died a while ago, similar to how trade with the great lakes died.
Also New Orleans is a literal swamp.
