The opposite is true. We have an epidemic of hapless young adults who've never grown up wondering about with no skills or purpose. If #adulting exists in your society then you need to put these people in the military or something.

Conscription is out of the question. If Vietnam caused mass unrest when there was still a shed of credibility left for the military, forcing service when all the military's dirty laundry is out in the open now would cause mass bloodshed
