No. The plan was to get the west to exhaust their weapons supplies sending them to Ukraine. My predictions is that China and North Korea will begin making moves soon, and the US military won't be able to contain them. This is about to be a three front war.

Wars are never fought in months time scales, but in years timescales. Russia/China understand that the west needs to be methodically disassembled, it can't be done at once. China will make moves against Taiwan next year as western economies in Europe begin to severely contract due to lack of energy starting this winter. Supply chains are still a problem left over from covid that the US hasn't recovered fully from, and likely won't. As the US economy continues its downward spiral, the Chinese accelerate the process, first by taking military action against Taiwan, then using economic warfare against the US. They could be priming the world to dump the USD via their belt and road initiative (no loans if you hold USD), so that could further increase inflation to dangerous level in the US.

North Korea and Iran could make moves in their respective areas as well, further stretching the US military until it breaks. The Turkey/Greece conflict is likely the next one to blow up, and will further divide NATO/EU. Wildcard is India.

Iran is a supersized, advanced Afghanistan with a thriving defense industry and entrenched defenders. Every valley will be lined with MANPADS and AA, making helicopter travel impossible.
