China had hundreds of thousands of troops on the ground fighting southern and US forces. Russians were flying planes and driving tanks without even trying to hide their involvement. Not to mention giving the northern forces full access to the entirety of KGB intelligence.
Communist aid for the north numbered in the tens of thousands of pieces of heavy equipment and enough small arms to arm millions.
Ukraine has received what? Some manpads, vests, a couple of hundred rusty hand-me-down tanks and IFVs, and few dozen modern artillery systems.

Why would they be able to in the first place? Wasn't Afghanistan responsible for the dissolution of the soviet union and why Russia is so buckbroken today lol? Despite its dense jungle, North Vietnam was pummeled in the face enough that they were forced to recognize South Vietnam as a legitimate government. South Vietnam was lost due to hippies and democrats wanting to defund South Vietnam after the treaty was signed.
