I disagree with this assumption because what happens to maga post trump either someone in his family or circle is going to inherit his base or it goes into the popular but more niche and kinda does its own thing to go off the deep end i.e 30-40% of the country becomes Qanon.
I think if liberals want to keep things in their acceptable overton window without having to rely on a paradigm shift to do it, they not only have to deal with trump but with maga more than even trump himself because its not necessarily trump its that trump is the only person that has somewhat an ability to calm the beast down when it's off the leash. Maga isn't going away when trumps gone and its going to manifest into something that can't be controlled by one person and kinda transcends this cult of personality trump once had. The base of maga is going to chose the candidate going forward regardless of trump done are the days of these centrists exemplified by the fact that joe biden will be the last person to have called himself a centrist in the early campaign and tried to give out concessions to the other side. This goes for maga when the republican primaries happen the base will pick a majorie Taylor green type to run the party based of cultural opposition only. That kinda puts repubs in a shitty spot going forward because they need to govern first and foremost and not just be about a culture war. In a way polarization favors democrats because the democrat radical is more feasible and viable than majorie Taylor green. The Republicans need to find a way to scrape off maga or else they will split the party in the long term if they stick around.
Tldr, unless maga is dealt with in some fashion the republican party is over.

As a MAGA Republican, it works for me if The Donald's candidacy is martyred by attacks from his various TDS suffering opponents. They are legion and have many of the powerful among them. Do not mistake me. I think he was an upper tier President and could maybe have been great, but he drove the other side so utterly crazy that they fanatically oppose anything he tries to do regardless of circumstance. Otherwise intelligent and reasonable people are unable to get past how much they hate him. Besides, respectfully, he'll be too old.
