Wrong. Tipping is charity. In other countries tipping is not a social custom and the servers make a comfortable wage or salary. This is because the custom in those countries demands an employer supply their employee with an acceptable wage in exchange for their work. American servers are agreeing to rely on the generosity of strangers to earn a stable income which is about as reliable as being a beggar on the street.
