Their new album is really really good. I gave it another listen the other day and it really enraptured me. Its not their best but its a solid 7/10

I stopped liking them after Aenima too. But that album and undertow are both 10/10s.
It's alright. I think Aenima was their peak; they became too engrossed with dumb math problems on everything after that. Aenima had a spiritual quality and emotional density that I feel is lacking in all their later releases. I don't think they're bad records, per se, they just don't reach me on an emotional level the way that their earlier material does.

I have listened to it twice, and while I will admit I think its better than 10000 days I will also say I hated 10k days so much its unreal. 10k days was the last CD I ever paid for. Bought it 11th grade year of high school lol.
Seems like Tool was something akin to GNR for the Millennial generation. As I got older, I went from Megadeth to brutal death metal and black metal. These days I listen to bands like Akhlys and Necrot. I couldn't get through the first song off that new Tool album when it wormed its way into my feed.

I picture these guys being fed their scripts and performance routines by the record labels in their youths and thinking "Okay, we're doing Satanism. That's a bit edgy but the money is good." Salvial has too much "filler" on it to be very high. It doesnt feel like a complete album and since it isnt the powerhouse opiate is I would put it after aenima.
I also hate redditniggers who act like tool is some special band who is super deep. They just make noise on instruments that I enjoy and they are no more important than Seth Putnam or Peter Steele.
